A couple of months ago I bought Little 'Ny a potty and the Karen Katz book A Potty for Me! I did not plan on starting potty training until she turned 2, but I thought it would be good to begin introducing the concept. Little 'Ny's little potty has been more of a toy for her -- looking at books while sitting on it or trying to put her toys in it.
Over the past month she has been watching Potty Time with Bear and Elmo's Potty Time. We started making her more aware of when she had a dirty diaper. So, now half of the time when she tells me that she pooped she is actually right!
The other night I was at a work dinner while Chris and Little 'Ny had our friends Ricky and Tina over for pizza. Ricky noticed that Little 'Ny was pulling at the crotch of her diaper. So, Chris asked her if she needed to pee pee. She said "yes". Chris asked her if she wanted to pee pee in her potty. Again, she said "yes". So, Chris took her upstairs to the bathroom. Chris asked her if she wanted to take her diaper off and sit on the potty. And, Little 'Ny said "yes" again!
She sat on the potty for about 15 seconds looking a bit confused. Then she started to reach down into the potty. When Chris tried to stop her he noticed that she had actually gone pee pee in her potty!
... AND I MISSED IT!
Little 'Ny has not got pee pee in her potty again, but we are so excited that she is starting to understand the concept. We are one small step closer to being diaper free!
