I don't gamble because I never win. I just don't have that kind of luck.
When I was in college my friends and I went to Vegas for New Years. I only planned on gambling a little bit ... $50 playing on $.25 slots should have lasted me the entire weekend. I would win a bit, then I would lose it again, then win, then lose ... you get the picture. We conviced on friend to gamble just a little bit so she changed in $5 for quarters, put in $1.75 and hit a $800 jackpot. She was done gambling for the rest of the trip. From that moment on I was determined to win. One saying goes "you have to lose big in order to win big". Well, the first part was correct ... I left Vegas with a $200 hole in my wallet, and I never won big enough with Scratchers or Quick Picks to fill that hole back up.
I remember watching a segment on the Today Show a while back about people who won millions worth of goods or trips from sweepstakes and giveaways. They would spend hours of days filling out forms for everything and anything. They made it a second job and in some cases their full time job!
Have you noticed since Halloween all of the giveaways being announced on Twitter and Facebook? I see people every day winning fabulous prizes. Well, another saying goes "you have to play in order to win," so that is what I started doing. I have entered a number of giveaways for things I thought would be fun to win regardless what the monetary value was. Guess what ...
Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to brag about winning some pretty cool giveaways. I am more in shock that I am actually winning anything at all and I am PRAYING that my winning streak keeps up! If I could only win $1,000 or a full paid trip for 4 to Disney World or 2 round trip airline tickets to London ... *fingers and toes crossed* Oh wait, I need to uncross my fingers because I need to enter more giveaways!
