My mom was being groomed to become a designer for my grandmother's fashion house. Even though my mom decided not to go into the fashion industry she did get her degree of Bachelor of Professional Arts at Woodbury University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude of her class. She is a gifted artist and has a great eye for design.
I believe this is where I got my passion for fine clothing. I have always loved fashion. My second real job out of college was working for Gap and Banana Republic (I know ... don't say it) as a website producer. Even though I wasn't involved with the designing or merchandising I was in fashion! It was a great job and I miss it every day.
My favorite fashion icon is Audrey Hepburn. She once said, "For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone." I believe what you wear is nothing unless you are beautiful within. She was a true beauty inside and out.
What is funny about me is that I am not very fashion "forward". In fact, my choice of clothing is quite basic with a few unique items. I choose comfort and quality over trendy items. I rarely wear prints. So, that brings me to this weeks list of my random things -- my favorite items of clothing:
26) A pair of really flattering and comfortable jeans. Right now I am wearing Gap Long & Leans. I would love a pair of high quality designer jeans, but these fit in my budget for now!
27) Black tank top. It can be dressed up or down with some great accessories.
28) Wrap around sweater (ideally in black). There are so many different cuts of this style, but they are all flattering.
29) Flip flops. I found a pair of Roxy flip flops my last trip to Oahu and wish I had bought 3 more pairs for back up. I also have a pair of platform ones which my mom added rhinestones to ... they are fabulous!
30) Embroidered ballet flats. My favorite pair came from Old Navy of all places. They went with EVERYTHING. Again, I wish I had bought 3 more pairs for back up. Right now I am hoping the shoe guy can do some magic or that I can find another pair somewhere.
So, tell me the articles of clothes that must be in your closet!
My favorites are jeans and a crip white mid-sleeve tshirt with my patent leather loafers from Ann Talor.. I pretty wear that all summer long..
ReplyDeleteCan't live w/o my J brand cigarette jeans.
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool you grandmother had her own business in the fashion world. So interesting.
My olive turtleneck sweater from Victoria's Secret.
ReplyDeleteMy boots (I have three pairs and they get worn almost every day from Oct. to March.)
My new blue and purple plaid trench coat -- a total score at Chez Target for $30!
My LBD with silver embroidery. I get compliments on it every time I wear it.
I'm pretty basic. I'm like you that I dont do many patterns. I layer a lot. I'm an extremely cheap shopper too. You wont find me laying down $50 bucks for jeans. Like ever. Because I really am that cheap. LOL

505 jeans and plaid shirts. Flannel plaid shirts. And all of my weird, whacky, funny tee shirts. Yes. I'm THAT old man - the one that wears the tee shirts that are funnier than Jeff Foxworthy after three beers.
ReplyDeleteRight now... I have some jogging type pants and assorted LS tops. I know...fashionable...but dude. They're comfortable and don't hurt my tummy!
ReplyDeleteNormally though...I'd say some Mudd Jeans that I get from Goodys for 20 bucks, my 3 dollar old navy flip flops, and...I have tons of tank tops to layer and shirts and some awesome skirts and such. I'm VERY thrifty lol.
Great post, Nicole. My fashion musts are hoop earrings in gold and silver. Def Gap Long and Lean jeans. A cozy long sweater. One funky blazer that goes well with jeans. Knee high boots. Flip flops from Longs. Hooded sweatshirt to wear when I need to feel comfy.
ReplyDeleteI have a love of fashion and all things grunge/skate and a miniscule budget, so my faves are fairly common-place:
ReplyDeleteAmerican Eagle Hipster Cigarette Jeans (they're not a skinny leg, but fitted enough to go well with everything, especially under a dress), fitted long-waisted cotton tees, zip-hoodies in a variety of colours and coziness, converse low-tops in black and my most prized fashion must - tank tops for layering (and concealing bra-protestation).
