100 Random Things About Me: Been There, Done That

Before I get down to my weekly additions to my 100 Random Things About Me I have to give a thank my incredibly lovely guest posters Miss & ZoeyJane. If you didn't get a chance to read their post you can read them here and here. They are the best blogging friends a girl could have! I *heart* you two!

On with the meme ...

I got back around 11pm last night from my first trip to South Carolina! I went for a company conference so I didn't get to see much of it since we were on an island resort the entire time. Hopefully the company will send me back and I will get some time to tour Charleston. But, I can at least say I have now been there! (I will post some photos next week for Wordless Wednesday so stay tuned.)

I haven't traveled nearly as much as I had hoped I would by now in life. But, I have traveled some. To add to my list of 100 Random Things About Me here are my favorite places I have been:

31) Vancouver & Victoria - I have actually been there twice ... once in 1982 and the other for the 1986 World Exposition. My parents loved road trips. I remember riding in the covered bed of our 1985 Toyota pick up truck surrounded by books. I always get groggy in cars and would sleep most of the time we were driving. My mom would get so upset that I was missing the scenery, so she would make me sit in between her and my dad with the stick shift between my knees. And, guess what ... I still fell asleep. I was young so I don't remember much of either trip, but what I do remember was that it is beautiful up there. I need to go visit ZoeyJane sometime to get my fix!

32) Washington DC & West Virginia - In 1984 my parents took me to the capital for the Fourth of July. I was only 9 years old, but I remember clearly how breathtaking the fireworks looked reflecting on the water below the Washington Monument. It was one of those key moments when you realize how lucky it is to live in America. The other things I remember are typical of a kid -- seeing fireflies for the first time, eating a popsicle shaped like a foot with a huge gumball in the big toe, and of course the swimming pool.

33) London - I actually studied for two months one summer at an American university in London. Since I was an English major with a focus on British Literature these two month were like visiting the Mothership. It was nothing short of amazing to see the places Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen came from and wrote about. I returned in 1999 with my parents. Of course I visited some of my favorite places (National Gallery, the pub on St. Alban's Road, shopping in Notting Hill, getting a baguette sandwich at the deli down the street from my old dorm ... to name just a few) and I went to some places I didn't get to the first time around.

34) Paris - After London my parents and I headed over to Paris for only 4 days. A local Parisian guy befriended me the first night we were there, so he took me to all of the cool local Paris night spots at night and I toured with my parents during the day. I didn't very much sleep those 4 days, but it was worth every waking moment.

35) New York & Connecticut - In 2003 The X and I headed to the East Coast for my friend's wedding. We spent a week in New York City sight seeing and visiting with friends. It was a first time for both of us and we loved it there. I have never eaten so much pizza and hot dogs in a week. The X got his fill of sporting events while I visited The Met and ate some of the best dim sum at a hole in a wall restaurant. The wedding was in Mystic, CT ... and yes, we ate at Mystic Pizza and it was GOOD! I loved how quaint the town is and the architecture of the old buildings.

I hope to travel more, so tell me what are some of your favorite places you have been that you think I should go to?

  1. Yes, you DEFINITELY have to come back to Vancity as a grown-up. I think Princess D would love it, too - especially with all of the puddles to splash in!

  3. We did the same when I was growing up, traveled all over. One of my favorite places was the Bahamas. What I loved the most was traveling cross country. I'd love to do it again.

When you hit up Van-City, I'm coming too.

And you are very very welcome my lovely.

  4. The only real traveling I did growing up was INSIDE the United States.

And, most of it was beaches along Florida and Alabama.

My FAVORITES would be Savannah (and Tybee Island) Georgia and Montego Bay, Jamaica (Sandals Resort). There are SOOO many places that I'd LOVE to go.

As far as places you need to visit? Western KY...aka ME! :D
