the newest super hero

About 6 months ago Little 'Ny started pretending that she was a puppy on and off through out the day. She would bark instead of talk. She would walk around on her hands and knees. She would roll over for a treat. I figure it is a sign that she has a very good imagination ... plus she watches Clifford the Big Red Dog every morning.

As much as I try to keep Little 'Ny's environment "gender neutral" I have found that there are some benefits to the "princess phenomenon". I got her Polite as a Princess a while back to introduce her to basic manners. We read the book every night and she tells me if she does the manners they mention. If she doesn't do something (like cover her mouth when she coughs) we mention that she is not acting like a princess. We have been told many times by other adults that Little 'Ny is unbelievably polite ... so, let's hope "being a princess" doesn't have an adverse affect on her.

Recently she started combining these two altar egos calling herself a "Puppy Princess". So, the other night when she was in the bath she said to me, "Mommy, I like Superman. I a super heewo."

I said, "Oh yeah! Are you Super 'Ny?"

She said, "No, I Super Puppy Princess and need a cape!"

I said, "Okay, we can see if Lola [my mom] can make you a cape."

She smiled and kept splashing in the tub.

I asked her, "So, Super Puppy Princess what is your special power?"

She looked at me and said, "Eating!"

Move over Superman, Batman, Spiderman and Wonder Woman ... Super Puppy Princess is eating her way to being the next super hero!

  4. Aw, that's so sweet! Super Puppy Princess. I have a friend with a 2 1/2 yr old daughter that pretends she's Lightening McQueen constantly. At least your daughter doesn't pretend she's a car!

I say get her the cape!

  5. That's awesome :) I try to keep gender neutral, too. That's why my little son got a play kitchen for his last birthday!
