My Favorite Place in Maui

My favorite location is Maui is Paia, a historic sugar cane plantation town on the North shore of the island.

shopping in Paia

The town is known for its antique stores, Hawaiian made art galleries and mom & pop restaurants. Walking around you feel like you have step back in time with the rustic architecture and weathered decor. You can always find local treasures and friendly faces.

Paia Trading Co., LLC

Since our last visit to Paia many local designers have set up their boutiques and a couple of chain stores have taken residence putting some of the older shops out of business. It is a bit sad to see this quiet town changing, but driving around the island we have noticed new strip malls and franchises.

lunchtime view

My other favorite location on the North shore of Maui is Mama's Fish House. We go for lunch to enjoy the scenery and the lower prices. The fish served is caught by local fishermen in the morning and served for lunch and dinner that day. It doesn't get much fresher than that. The meal is like a piece of artwork and unbelievably delicious.

Grilled Wild Ahi and Nueske’s Smoked Bacon Sandwich

The North shore of Maui is known for the fantastic display of windsurfing and the small beach on the property of Mama's Fish House is a perfect place for kids. It is my favorite beach on the entire island. The view is spectacular, you can find all kinds of coral and shells, and the water is warm.

Hookipa windsurfers

Little 'Ny has been so scared of the ocean waves, but the calm shallow waters on this beach were perfect to help her break her fears. It took her 3 hours to work up the confidence to go in, but once she was in she didn't want to get out!

enjoying the water

If you ever visit Maui make sure you visit these locations. You won't be sorry!

  1. My husband and I honeymooned in Maui 5 years ago, and your pictures remind me so much of why we decided to vacation there. I cannot wait until we are able to go back someday! Absolutely beautiful!

  3. That last photo NEEDS to go into a wide white wooden frame, with thick white matting. NEEDS. And then it NEEDS to be hung on the back of your front door, so that everytime you leave the house, you see it and smile.
