NaBloPoMo 17: Someone Really Likes Me!

In 2005 I started a blog to keep my family and friends around the globe up to date with Princess D. It served as her baby book (since I never got around to making her one). But, I needed a place to write about my growth and experience of motherhood and being a woman.

I have a BA in English and originally had aspirations to be a writer, but my financial needs over shadowed my passions forcing me down a different path. Starting this blog gave me a chance to reawaken the creative side of me that had laid dormant for 5 years. At first it was scary having people I didn't know read my writing. Thanks to friends (and BlogHer) I started making some online connections.

It became even scarier having people I know in real life reading my writing. I found myself focusing so much on my daughter and almost nothing about me which was the exact opposite of what this blog was meant for.

Then my world as I knew it came crashing down causing the worse case of writers block. Things were not happy for me and all I had been writing about had been happy things. I thought if I wrote about the bad things going on in my life people would no longer want to read my blog or that I would hurt some of them. After some soul searching, some therapy, some support group time, and some kind words from other bloggers I began writing again. This time the posts I have been writing have depth that I never thought I could express publicly online. Even better readers were responding, agreeing, feeling, and getting inspired.

I met Sarah from The Third Degree on Plurk. We started plurking with each other about health and relationships. She provided me support and kind words during some very difficult days in the past couple of months. Recently she awarded me with the Superior Scribblers Award. (I didn't see this award since I have been backlogged on my Reader thanks to my Maui vacation!) I am so honored to know that I have inspired her.

Thank you, Sarah! I still don't feel like I can call myself a "writer". There are bloggers who are much more eloquent. So, I am going to pass this award on to 5 of them ...

1) Just Miss: I met Miss on Plurk and we instantly became friends. I have never connected with someone as easily as I did with her. She has a love for music. Her posts on how lyrics translate in to her life can melt your heart. She has opened my ears.

2) Mommy is Moody: I met her on Plurk too (there are some fabulous people there). She has a wealth of knowledge through life experience. I turned to her on the darkest night of my life and she held me up the entire time. Her writing is superb ... funny, dark, real.

3) Secret Agent Josephine: She is the creator of my fabulous banner and widget. Fell in love with her blog and her little girl, Baby Bug. She is incredibly creative, takes wonderful photos and has written posts that have made me laugh out loud.

4) Maggie's Mind: If you haven't read her haikus yet go now!

5) Citizen of the Month: He is a professional writer so it is only fitting that he gets this award. I discovered Neil when he did the The Great Interview Experiment ... a brilliant way to connect bloggers from around the globe.

Of course, as with every Bloggy Award, there are A Few Rules. They are, forthwith:
  • Each Superior Scribbler must in turn pass The Award on to 5 most-deserving Bloggy Friends.
  • Each Superior Scribbler must link to the author & the name of the blog from whom he/she has received The Award.
  • Each Superior Scribbler must display The Award on his/her blog, and link to this post, which explains The Award.
  • Each Blogger who wins The Superior Scribbler Award must visit this post and add his/her name to the Mr. Linky List. That way, we’ll be able to keep up-to-date on everyone who receives This Prestigious Honor!
  • Each Superior Scribbler must post these rules on his/her blog.

Honestly, you are an amazing writer and you write from the heart. Not a lot of people do these days.

  2. Aw. Thank you. Love.

And yes, Miss said it, writing from the heart - it makes you more a writer than a lot of people out there.
