NaBloPoMo 23: Pimp My Blog

I have this dream that one day my daily visits will be in the thousands, I would have about 500 subscribers, averaging 50 comments a day and my BlogHer paycheck will take care of a month's worth of bills, companies emailing me asking to advertise. Hey a blogger can dream right?!?!

I do work in the internet industry as a project manager, but in the non-profit realm. I try to stay in tune with the latest and the greatest Web 2.0 has to offer, but the truth is I am not a technical person. I am a project manager. My life is spent in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Project. So, I leave design and coding to the people who are really trained in those fields.

Since I work full time and am primary caretaker to a 3 year old there is never enough hours in the day for me to really focus on search engine optimization, networking, ad selling and (oh yeah) sleep! When Hubs and I were living together I had even less time. Now that I have Saturday afternoons to myself I can start working on turning this site into a well oiled money making machine.

I have joined all of the well known mommy blogger networks, but have yet to maintain them. I have signed up with Woopra, but still need to implement it. I really want to get on to Alltop (someone please recommend me) and win a blogger award (someone please nominate me).

So, if you have any recommendations on how I can boost my traffic easily please let me know. Feel free to pimp me out to your readers. I will guest blog if you need one.

Ok ... maybe I should stop bitching about it, wrap up this post and do the things I just mentioned I haven't done.

  1. Woopra is the bomb, I have only seen and heard of the others cause I have never been awarded or invited to anything either.

However, I also do not have a ton of traffic. Maybe its better that way. I have seen what the pressure of mass readers can do to a blogger.

I have actually seen the most traffic and comments to my own blog when I write about what is real and personal. Sometimes I think its not about the story itself but the willingness to share a piece of yourself. Because I like to personally respond to every comment, I think lower traffic may be better! ;)

  2. Totally get what you're saying, though I have no advice. Let me know when you figure out the secret.

  3. I'm working on gaining subscribers, too. Not sure how though. And I've joined all those clubby sites, but who has time for that?! It's work, isn't it, this whole blogging thing!

  4. If you want visitors QUICK, try doing a giveaway and submitting it to different places so they feature it.

And, I've received several awards but none of them really gave me as many visitors as you may imagine...maybe a handful of new visits? So, I wouldn't necessarily depend on that one...

  5. That is a complicated question. You first need to ask yourself why you want all these subscribers for? Even with 500 subscribers you aren't going to make enough pay your bills. It feels good to have more readers for about two weeks, and then it is the same as before, with just more people you need to interact with on a daily basis.

  6. I agree with Neil. It tends to be really cyclical and labor intensive. Yes, Plurk and Twitter help. Giveaways are good. Awards are nice. I find that listing my tags are key and using terms that people are frequently searching for (e.g., tantrum, children of divorce, red hot monkey love) can pave a path for some who may stick around. But getting out there and commenting on other people's sites has been a mainstay and it takes a lot of time to build and maintain those relationships. That said, I find it well worth my time, especially when I get to know great people like you!

  11. Great blog as for me. It would be great to read a bit more concerning that theme. The only thing your blog needs is a few photos of some gizmos.
