Modern Mom Challenge - Week #1

We have officially began 2009 and there is no time like the present to get started on my resolutions. First up, my health! To help me get back on track I have joined the Modern Mom Challenge. Here are the goals I have set for myself:
  1. Attend yoga an average of 2 days a week, but my goal is 3 days a week.
  2. Lose 14 lbs. (plus the 7 I gained over the holidays)
  3. Eat something green twice a day.
  4. Replace my non-fat caramel latte with Earl Grey Green Tea and Yogi Tea Detox.
  5. Lights out, computer and TV turned off by midnight every night.
So, I have to admit I gained 7 lbs over the holidays. *hanging head in shame* I have paid the price for all of the delicious chocolates and cookies, my mom's amazing cooking and no yoga. I had a goal to lose 14 lbs, but now I need to tack on the additional 7 lbs I gained! I am not going to tell you my real weight, because ... well, just because! But, I will keep you up to date on how much I lose. I have weighed myself today *sigh* and will do so every Sunday. I will post every Monday if how much I have lost.

My parents always stock me up with salad stuff, apples and bananas since they get everything at CostCo and it is too much for them to consume before the stuff goes bad. My mom participates in Weight Watchers and she gave me some of their chocolate snack bars. Yesterday I purged all of the Christmas chocolates and cookies from my house. I cleaned out my cabinets, fridge and freezer of everything that has gone bad. Then I made a trip to the grocery store for food for home and the office:
One of my biggest food challenges is whatever I eat Princess D has to be able to eat too since we have to share everything. My other one is that I don't likehave time to really cook. Since I am on a tight budget I replaced as many brand names with store brand where I could and brought in whatever coupons I have. I actually saved $25.58!

I have not had non-fat caramel latte in 4 days ... that alone is something to be proud of! And, this week I am back at the office so I can go to yoga class. Overall, I think I am off to a good start!

  1. Congratulations on getting off to such a great start!

I thought I was being good over the holidays and I still gained weight :( I blame it on the alcohol, which I'm limiting moving forward.

  3. Good for you! I've been on weight watchers for about six weeks and I've dropped nearly six pounds. I do the meetings and the online tracking system and it's worked out great!

I've switched to nonfat vanilla or peppermint lattes (they're only 2 points on WW and count as a milk serving) a couple of times a week.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

  5. I have a terrible time with making food for me. I always eat what I make the kids.. and that is typically not that great of food since my oldest is super picky and likes the greasy staples of chicken and mac and cheese.

I need to make an outline ..like you.. I am in this challenge too.. just need to REALLY focus.. thanks for the inspiration!!

  6. What is the Yogi Tea Detox?

I love nothing more then a good cup of tea and have never heard of that.

  7. I hope you don't hate me for telling you this, but that bertolli stuff you picked up? It's packed with not so healthy yumminess (and it's my favorite too)...so, just fyi :)

If you guys have access to Wolfgang Puck's frozen stuff...it's YUMMY and healthy - unfortunately they don't carry it around here anymore...I'd have to drive 2 hours to get it. So, right.

  11. I kind of like the way you look the way you are. Admittedly - the picture I saw of you was at least 7 pounds ago - but - goodness woman, you are .... good looking. (I was going to say HAWT - but I didn't want to get all pervy and stuff). Take it easy on yourself.
